Retinal detachment: In fewer than 1 in 10 people, the vitreous may pull away from the retina hard enough to completely tear the retina. The higher-risk group includes people who are severely nearsighted (myopic). If you see dark specks or flashes of light, its possible you could have posterior vitreous detachment (PVD), an eye problem many people have as they age. Retinal detachment often occurs on its own without cause however it can be caused by trauma or Diabetic Retinopathy. There are generally no restrictions for watching television or reading after laser surgery for a retinal tear. It takes few weeks or even a month after laser surgery for floaters to disappear.
